Description

The EVEX-6000W is a back-up power option for a large portion of your home's electrical circuits. It is intended to be wired to an electrical sub-panel using a licensed electrician, and can provide 6 kW of continuous power with 18 kW 20 second surge capability via a robust 2-phase inverter. We pair this with a small 24V 100 amp-hour battery bank, along with the DC cabling and fuses needed to connect the batteries to the inverter. This system can be used as a separate backup option you turn on when you need it, or as an uninterruptible power supply that monitors your grid power and automatically switches over to providing power when the grid fails. Depending on your average power usage, this can provide up to 10 hours of power to run a refrigerator, furnace blower fan, sump pump, and some lighting. As your personal average power demands increase from this baseline, the runtime will decrease accordingly. AC wiring and sub panel are not included, and will vary with installation details that will be finalized by the licensed electrician you retain to complete the installation. This kit is designed as a backup power option for any homeowner; it does not require an electric vehicle or related EV inverter kit accessories.

The EVEX-6001W adds on a custom configured, 24V 7A battery bank charger and wiring that can be powered by one of our standard EV Extend Inverter kits (sold separately). Since, over time, your average power needs in the home are always less than your maximum instantaneous power needs, this 190W charger can keep the small battery bank charged using a second inverter connected to one of our Inverter kits, with part numbers beginning in EVEX-1. If your average power needs are more than 190W, then this kit will help extend the power duration for some amount of time as it attempts to keep the battery bank charged, until the battery bank is eventually depleted. As long as your average power needs are less than 190W, this can conceivably keep your home powered for as long as your electric vehicle is able to provide power to the 190W battery bank charger.

The EVEX-6002W adds on a custom configured, 24V 20A battery bank charger and wiring that can be powered by one of our standard EV Extend Inverter kits (sold separately). Since, over time, your average power needs in the home are always less than your maximum instantaneous power needs, this 540W charger can keep the small battery bank charged using a second inverter connected to one of our Inverter kits, with part numbers beginning in EVEX-1. If your average power needs are more than 540W, then this kit will help extend the power duration for some amount of time as it attempts to keep the battery bank charged, until the battery bank is eventually depleted. As long as your average power needs are less than 540W, this can conceivably keep your home powered for as long as your electric vehicle is able to provide power to the 540W battery bank charger.

The EVEX-6003W is the EVEX-6002W with double the battery capacity, providing 24V and 200Ah (approximately 4800Wh).

The EVEX-6004W is the EVEX-6003W with a 48V battery configuration, providing 48V and 100Ah (approximately 4800Wh). The custom configured charger is also upgraded to a 48V 15A battery bank charger and wiring that can be powered by one of our standard EV Extend Inverter kits (sold separately). Since, over time, your average power needs in the home are always less than your maximum instantaneous power needs, this 720W charger can keep the small battery bank charged using a second inverter connected to one of our Inverter kits, with part numbers beginning in EVEX-1. If your average power needs are more than 720W, then this kit will help extend the power duration for some amount of time as it attempts to keep the battery bank charged, until the battery bank is eventually depleted. As long as your average power needs are less than 720W, this can conceivably keep your home powered for as long as your electric vehicle is able to provide power to the 720W battery bank charger.

Reviews/Testimonials

"I'm incredibly happy with my EVEX 6003W kit, and the entire experience working with Eric at EV Extend (along with a local licensed electrician) through the installation. My wife and I are in California, where we have the 'joy' of wildfire-related power disconnects initiated by our utility company. We have a large built-in refrigerator with dual 14A compressors that serves as an emergency backup for people with medical needs on our block, and when both units come on at the same time they can easily draw 6000W surge current, which is way more than portable generators or standard inverters can handle. By getting an EVEX-6003W with a 200 Ah, 4 battery configuration from Eric, I am able to recharge the entire system (while it's running) from my EVEX-1002N Nissan LEAF inverter kit, and handle a power outage of up to a week by tapping the 40kWh battery in my 2020 Nissan LEAF. In fact, since our outages are quite localized, I can even run off the local batteries long enough to drive my LEAF to a fast-charging station and get back home with another week 'in the tank'."

EVEX‑6000W/EVEX‑6001W/EVEX‑6002W Frequently Asked Questions

What warranty does this come with?

The kit's individual components come with warranties provided by through their respective manufacturers. This includes a 1 year limited warranty on the inverter, a full 1 year warranty on the battery bank, and a 2 year warranty on the auxiliary charger (for EVEX-6001W and EVEX-6002W kits)

Can I install this myself?

Typically, all of the 12V wiring between the batteries and inverter can be installed yourself, however the AC wiring connecting the inverter into your home must be installed by a licensed electrician and conform to all applicable national and local codes. Due to the variation in installation configuration and codes, the AC wiring is also not included with this kit and can be provided by your electrician. Some locations may also require the 12V wiring to be performed by a qualified electrician; please consult your local municipality for guidance.

Why is this better than a large generator?

There are a few main benefits over a typical backup generator. One is that this system does not require maintenance such as oil changes or occasional cycling of the engine that would be required from a generator. Additionally, unlike a generator, this system is installed indoors and has no loud running sound or emissions, making this a neighborhood friendly solution. The other major benefit is that the inverter with this system can be configured to monitor input grid power and instantly respond in an outage wihtin a matter of milliseconds. The time to respond is short enough that many appliances and computers will not notice a power interruption, allowing this system to act as an uniterruptible power supply. This is unlike a generator, which would require several seconds or even minutes to turn on and start providing power.

Do I need to purchase a separate charger for the batteries?

No! The inverter that the EVEX-6000W kit comes with includes an integrated charger, that will charge the batteries using grid power once restored. However, if you want to have the ability to help maintain the battery state of charge during a power outage, extending runtime beyond what a single battery charge could provide, then we recommend the EVEX-6001W or EVEX-6002W options. These options add on an additional auxiliary charger, custom configured to charge the batteries from another power source (such as from an electric vehicle using one of our electric vehicle inverter kits, part numbers beginning in EVEX-1) while the inverter is actively running during a power outage. As described above, this can be helpful to extend the duration of backup power that the batteries can provide.

How long can this power a sub-panel in my home?

Depending on your average power usage, this can provide over 10 hours of power to run a refrigerator, furnace blower fan, sump pump, and some lighting. As your personal average power demands increase from this baseline, the runtime will decrease accordingly.

Runtime can also be extended further by purchasing the EVEX-6001W or EVEX-6002W. These options add on an additional auxiliary charger, custom configured to charge the batteries from another power source (such as from an electric vehicle using one of our electric vehicle inverter kits, part numbers beginning in EVEX-1) while the 2 phase inverter is actively running from the batteries during a power outage. As described above, this can be helpful to extend the duration of backup power that the batteries can provide.

As an example, you may have circuits in your home that need up to 6kW simultaneously, but on average use no more than 150W. With the EVEX-6001W kit with auxiliary 190W charger, this will keep your batteries charged up indefinitely from a secondary 190W power source, while the main inverter continues to handle all of your higher power needs using the battery as a buffer to draw larger amounts of power as needed.
